It began as a great idea, sold from the trunk of a car and marketed to men and women who were just beginning to realize that their personal success depended upon the size of their body and the determination of their spirit.
Marketed, one might add, by a charismatic and talented man named Mark Reynolds Hughes, who jockeyed his trunk-load of vegetable flavored vitamin and mineral powders, into (upwards of) $1.5M annual, multi-level marketing company. Although Mr. Hughes personal life was fraught with conflict and deceit, the company he left to his heirs, following his May 21, 2000 death remains a significant presence in the nutrition, personal care, and home based business pool.
Testimonials from current and previous purveyors of the products sold by Herbalife International run the gamut from excessively positive to abundantly negative. All in all though, what they each reduce to is the simplest of precepts. If one begins with a good product, a firm belief in the product’s efficacy to perform according to its promotion, and a driving desire to achieve one’s personal goal—success is guaranteed. There is no variance from this formula in any of the testimonials, negative or positive—and herein lies the synergy.
Herbalife products are well promoted and manufactured products, offered to provide the fulfillment of a societal need for good health, life satisfaction and personal gain. Do the products work? It is entirely dependent upon one’s belief in, and use of them. Does the business end of this MLM (multilevel marketing) company satisfy the claims for the individual at the lowest level of the company? Again, it depends entirely upon the personal commitment of the individual in their pursuit of a goal of their own making.
