The Herbalife Company

Herbalife was founded by Mark Hughes in 1980 and since then has grown to become an internationally recognized, billion dollar company specializing in the sale of nutritional supplements, weight loss products, and skin care products. Herbalife first went public on the NASDAQ in 1986, but after the death of its founder in 2000, it was purchased by Whitney and Co. LLC in 2002 and was again made a private entity. In late 2004 Whitney and Co., with the help of a new CEO, took Herbalife public once more, this time on the NYSE.

The Herbalife Company began by selling weight management products, but has since added energy and fitness supplements, as well as personal care products to its lineup. They recently changed some product formulations to eliminate any concerns over unhealthy ingredients, such as ephedra. Herbalife products cannot be purchased through retail and are only available through independent distributors.

Herbalife presents its independent distributor channel as a legitimate multi-level marketing business model, rather than the pyramid scheme some people have accused it to be. The company has had several lawsuits filed against it regarding their business model and has settled many but has not in any of these cases indicated guilt.

Herbalife continues to grow and its proponents continue to stand by its slogan of “Make money now, ask me how!” Additional information on the Herbalife company can be found easily on the internet. Anyone interested in becoming a distributor should take advantage of all the information available when making this decision.
